Cat Counsellor is the third book by Vicky Halls, Britains leading Cat Behaviour Specialist. I can hear the incredulous tone your brain just used when you read that sentence – Cat Behaviour Specialist? Eh? Your initial reaction of disbelief should be put aside and this, and her other books Cat Detective and Cat Confidential, are ‘must-reads’ for any cat owner. Halls describes the often complex relationships between owners and their beloved cats and seeks to help us understand when a cat problem might be alleviated by some simple and devastatingly effective changes in attitude and environment. She covers topics ranging from aggression and ‘cat terrorism’ to dysfunctional human/cat relationships and how men and women tend to love cats differently. Each topic is embellished with examples from actual consultations with clients conducted over a number of years. With section titles like, “Tinker – or Genghis Khan to his friends” and “Damson and Cherry and the Delights of Ylang-Ylang soap” some are funny and some are heartbreaking, but all are entertaining and informative. As the by-line of Cat Confidential read, it’s “The Book Your Cat Wants You to Read”!
