An unusual week in that Harold doesn’t mention the Engineer (or indeed anyone by name).

 

 

The work diary of Harold Richardson, County Clerk, Rangitikei County Council:

 

Harold Hastings Richardson, 1872-1944 was appointed County Clerk in 1893, and he continued in that role until his death, 51 years later.

 

 

Monday, 3 June 1935

 

King’s Birthday Holiday.

 

Staff did not work in the afternoon but did so in the morning and the evening. 

 

 

Tuesday, 4 June 1935

 

Busy preparing for meeting (all hands).

 

Office in evening and several of the office staff.

 

 

Wednesday, 5 June 1935

 

Busy preparing for meeting. 

 

Office in evening.  Rang Chairman. 

 

 

Thursday, 6 June 1935

 

Council meeting day – big sitting – all present. 

 

Question [about] loan conversions and estimates […?…] discussed. 

 

 

Friday, 7 June 1935

 

Busy day  - correspondence, minutes, unemployed, accounts.

 

 

Saturday, 8 June 1935

 

Wet day and cold. 

 

Busy [with] unemployed etc. 

 

Home in afternoon. 

 

Office in evening.

*Sydney Mair was County Engineer, retiring 1947.  He began his employment with the County in 1899.

*Olive Oldfield was Office Typist

*Richard Dukeson was the County’s Overseer in the Southern part of the District

*Ken Waring Dalrymple was County Chairman 1929-1950.  He was first elected to the County in 1917.
