The work diary of Harold Richardson, County Clerk, Rangitikei County Council:

 

Harold Hastings Richardson, 1872-1944 was appointed County Clerk in 1893, and he continued in that role until his death, 51 years later.

 

 

Monday, 27 May 1935

 

Very busy day.

 

Office in evening.

 

Rang Chairman [Dalrymple*] and got his consent [to] renew application to declare Taihape-Napier Road a Main Highway. 

 

 

Tuesday, 28 May 1935

 

Mair* in office.

 

Busy day with motor drivers licences.

 

Office in evening.

 

 

Wednesday, 29 May 1935

 

Mair in Wellington at Loans Board meeting.

 

Some rain.

 

Dukeson* called.

 

Fowler* in.

 

Smith* and Sicely in office in afternoon.

 

Staff busy [with] drivers licences

 

Brown* and Miss Oldfield* busy on rates books

 

Office in evening.

Busy day with drivers licences and heavy traffic licences.

 

Brown and Miss Oldfield calculating rates.

Busy day with the unemployed.

 

Very busy day with drivers licences. 

 

 

Saturday, 1 June 1935

 

Busy day with the unemployed.

 

Dukeson in and took the money to Turakina.

 

Office closed in afternoon.

*Sydney Mair was County Engineer, retiring 1947.  He began his employment with the County in 1899.

*Olive Oldfield was Office Typist

*Richard Dukeson was the County’s Overseer in the Southern part of the District

*Ken Waring Dalrymple was County Chairman 1929-1950.  He was first elected to the County in 1917.
