Richardson's Diary - February 1935

For the week beginning 25th February 1935, planning begins for the new County Council building in High Street, Marton.

The work diary of Harold Richardson, County Clerk, Rangitikei County Council:

 

Harold Hastings Richardson, 1872-1944 was appointed County Clerk in 1893, and he continued in that role until his death, 51 years later.

 

 

Monday, 25 February 1935

 

Mr Mair* in office in morning.

 

Mr Dukeson* called.

 

Mr Fowler* in office.

 

Mr L… called in morning and then left for Bulls and again in office [in] afternoon.   

 

Mr Hamilton, Audit Inspector, called in evening and discussed […] keeping Benzine account etc.

 

Brown* and Miss Oldfield* checking balance sheet proofs for the printer. 

 

Instructed Mr Ladley to give legal opinion re Imprest account limitations. 

 

 

Tuesday, 26 February 1935

 

Mr Dukeson in office – also Mr Fowler.

 

Busy day preparing for meeting.

 

Mr Hamilton came in evening to discuss matter keeping Benzine accounts etc. with Mr Fowler and Mr Jackson.

Council meeting.

 

Very heavy programme of work.

 

Discussions [with] Mair [on] Highways account and Engineers’ removal to Marton.

Busy morning – unemployed etc.

 

Clearing up after the meeting.

*Sydney Mair was County Engineer, retiring 1947.  He began his employment with the County in 1899. 

*F J Fowler was the County’s Traffic Inspector

*Leslie Jones, Clerk

*A V Brown was Assistant County Clerk

*Olive Oldfield was Office Typist

*Frank Nicol, Accountant

*Rod McKenzie was Assistant Accountant

*Richard Dukeson was the County’s Overseer in the Southern part of the District

*Ken Waring Dalrymple was County Chairman 1929-1950.  He was first elected to the County in 1917.
