The Week of the 22nd of October 1934

The work diary of Harold Richardson, County Clerk, Rangitikei County Council:

 

Harold Hastings Richardson, 1872-1944 was appointed County Clerk in 1893, and he continued in that role until his death, 51 years later.

 

 

Monday, 22 October 1934

 

Labor Day Holiday.

 

Office in evening.

 

 

Tuesday, 23 October 1934

 

Sale day – busy day.

 

Mair* at Hunterville.

 

Stevenson called and settled contract [i.e. contract 690] and purchase of […] grader.

 

Fowler** in office. 

 

 

Wednesday, 24 October 1934

 

Fine day.

 

Mair in office certifying vouchers and then went to Scotts Ferry etc.

 

[…] new Asset Engineer in office, also Dukeson***.

 

Fowler in office.

 

Busy preparing work for meeting.

 

Office in evening.

 

 

Thursday, 25 October 1934

 

Fine day.

 

Mair called 2.30 pm  and we went to Kakariki to interview Robinson****.

 

Finishing up work for the meeting.

 

Office in evening.

 

 

Friday, 26 October 1934

 

Council meeting day.

 

Not very strenuous.

 

Some rain.

 

Some members absent after lunch.

 

Staff busy with unemployed.

 

 

Saturday, 27 October 1934

 

Busy morning with unemployed.

 

Dukeson took money to Turakina.

 

Heavy rain in morning.

 

Busy getting letters from meeting typed.

 

Office closed in the afternoon.

*Sydney Mair was County Engineer, retiring 1947.  he began his employment with the County in 1899. 

** Richard Dukeson was the County’s Overseer in the Southern part of the District
